altA weekend of events helped a pub raise thousands for a cause close to the hearts of staff and locals

A 24-hour pool marathon, three-legged pub crawl, raffle, auction and a range of games were among the ways the Bull and Dog in Sleaford, Lincolnshire, raised a total approaching £7,000 for Macmillan Cancer Care.

The event was the brainchild of Nicola Robinson who wanted to hold the day in memory of licensee Cliff Hutson’s mum Christine Monk, who died from cancer last year.

Her husband Kev Monk, who also works at the pub, said: “It was an amazing day and it is all obviously very important to me.

“The whole town seemed to get involved and the staff and locals were just brilliant. People donated some fantastic raffle and auction prizes and the pool team were incredible.”

The pub was packed all weekend thanks to a range of entertainment that included a henna tatooist, a caricaturist and karaoke. It donated 10 per cent of the week’s takings to the cause and other local businesses did the same.
