Fears of a double dip recession hitting the hospitality sector have been dismissed in a new report. Research by caterer.com and People 1st shows that the sector is experiencing the highest level of job activity for more than two years.
New vacancies have gone up from 26,550 in 2009 to 45,000 this year and applications are also up, reflecting greater competition in the market.
Much of the growth comes from a demand for skilled chefs and managers and, according to People 1st, more will be needed as the Olympics come to London
Brian Wisdom, chief executive of People 1st, said: “Thousands of workers will be needed in hospitality and businesses need to be thinking now about the implications that the Games will have on their business and whether they have the right quantity and levels of staff in place.”
